Vancouver Career College Launches New Payroll and Income Tax Practitioner Certificate Program

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

All BC Campuses in BC now accepting applications

Vancouver, BC - March 28, 2012 – Professionals with accounting and payroll training are in high demand by all types of businesses and organizations. Students can now develop the required skills and competitive advantage they need to enter this growing field with the launch of the new Payroll and Income Tax Practitioner program at Vancouver Career College.

The Payroll and Income Tax Practitioner certificate program prepares students for a rewarding career as a payroll practitioner. Students of the program learn payroll compliance legislation, payroll fundamentals, the Canadian Income Tax Act and effective income tax return preparation. Students also learn basic accounting skills and receive hands-on training in accounting software applications like Simply Accounting.

Graduates of the Payroll and Income Tax Practitioner certificate program meet the core and elective requirements of the Canadian Payroll Association’s (CPA) payroll certification programs. According to Robert Half's Guide to Certifications, certified payroll professionals may receive starting salaries up to 10% above the market average.

Job opportunities for graduates of the program include Payroll Officer, Accounts Payable Clerk, Audit Clerk, Tax Return Preparer, Benefits Officer, Bank Teller, and more. Payroll practitioners can work directly for a company’s finance department, or for a bureau that provides payroll services for other companies.

While the routine of a payroll practitioner can vary each day, the main responsibility is to ensure that wages are paid – correctly and on time. Other general duties include calculating and issuing pay, deducting tax and national insurance, processing holiday, sick and maternity pay and expenses, as well as calculating overtime, shift payments and pay increases.

Applications are now being accepted for the Payroll and Income Tax Practitioner certificate program at all Vancouver Career College campuses. For more information, fill out the form on the right.
