Professional Networking Events in Downtown Kelowna

Monday, October 15, 2012

While education is crucial for those who want to establish themselves professionally, there are additional opportunities that can help expand students' job networks and prepare them for starting their careers, whether in accounting or the healthcare sector. From women's seminars to after-hours networking events, here are a couple of opportunities for students in Kelowna to network with professionals outside of the classroom.

Women in Business
Kelowna Women in Business is an organization all about making connections with like-minded, career-driven women in the area. Since 1993, this nonprofit organization has hosted a number of social events for both members and the general public. While evening dinners and afternoon luncheons occur regularly each month, special one-time events like the talk, "It's Your Turn: Taking Back the Wise Woman Within," are highly anticipated events that encourage guests to book tickets early. Held on Wednesday, October 17, the keynote will feature Bonita Kay Summers, a life and business coach. She will share insight on how professional women can sharpen their minds and use their intuition to excel in their careers.

Head Downtown After 5
After a long day of classes, many students may want to just relax with friends over some snacks and cocktails. In downtown Kelowna, they can take part in this activity regularly with fellow students and professionals at the After 5 social mixer. Held on the last Wednesday of every month, these networking events invite professionals from all over Okanagan Valley to the Laurel Packinghouse from 5-7pm, to discuss their career goals, side projects and even personal interests. Students should always come prepared with either business cards or resumes so that if they happen to meet a seasoned professional in their field, they can easily give them their information and make a solid connection that extends beyond the cocktail hour.

Those who attend will receive complimentary drink tickets and can enjoy tasty appetizers while starting conversations with new acquaintances.

Students who are interested in getting their careers on the right track in the Kelowna region can enroll in business courses at Vancouver Career College. For more information on related programs, fill out the form on the right.
