Robust curriculum, hands-on training and clinical placements help shape competent grads

Burnaby, BC – August 6, 2013 – The Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination (CPNRE) is a major milestone for students training to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). Administered nationally since 1971, the CPNRE ensures new practical nurses meet an acceptable level of competence before they begin practice in the field. Success on the CPNRE means grads are ready for LPN positions in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities and other healthcare settings.

High graduate pass rates on the CPNRE speak about the calibre of education nursing students receive. Graduates of the Practical Nursing program at Vancouver Career College have consistently achieved high pass rates on the exam, earning 100 percent pass rates twice within the last year.

Based on the competencies established by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia (CLPNBC), the Practical Nursing program follows a robust curriculum that covers the essential areas of practice, including the nurse-client relationship, health promotion, professional communication and more. The course material also covers the legal, ethical and assessment competencies needed to succeed on the job.

Practical application of skills and knowledge is an integral component of the program. Students receive hands-on training from experienced nursing instructors, working on various simulation and scenario exercises in the classroom and nursing lab on campus.

Each term also includes a clinical placement in a healthcare setting, allowing students to hone their skills and gain experience alongside other members of a healthcare team. By the time of graduation, students have acquired experience in residential, community health and acute care settings. A final preceptorship at the end of the program helps them transition from nursing students to nursing professionals.

If you’re interested in a career as an LPN, the Practical Nursing program at Vancouver Career College can help you get there. In less than two years, you could be prepared to write the CPNRE and be on your way to a brighter future. To learn more about the program, fill out the form on the right or apply online today!
