Vancouver Career College to Host Provincial Open House on February 21, 2013

Vancouver, BC – February 12, 2013 – A number of occupations in the province will see above-average to excellent job prospects until 2020, according to WorkBC, the province’s authority on the labour market. Among these are licensed practical nurses, secretarial positions, paralegals, early childhood educators and community and social service workers. In order to help British Columbians earn the credentials to compete in BC’s competitive job market, Vancouver Career College is holding a Provincial Open House on Thursday, February 21, 2013.

“Along with improvements in the job market, BC continues to see a growing percentage of its workforce retire, creating opportunities for others to fill the vacancies,” says Larry Heinzlmeir, VP of Marketing for Vancouver Career College. “At Vancouver Career College, we’re helping students hone the skills they need to successfully navigate the current labour market and fill the vacancies within it.”

Vancouver Career College’s Provincial Open House will provide guests with an opportunity to learn about the college and its range of programs in business, healthcare, education, legal studies, trades and art and design. They’ll learn how curriculum is developed with input from Program Advisory Committees to ensure the program is in step with the current needs of today’s employers.

Programs are taught by industry-experienced instructors in small classes, allowing students more interaction with their teachers and fellow students. Each program combines classroom time with hands-on training so students acquire both the knowledge and skills for the job. Prior to graduation, students participate in a supervised practicum placement, allowing them to gain valuable on-the-job experience before entering the workforce.

Guests of the Open House will also learn about the support Vancouver Career College offers students and alumni through the career service department, including free access to the online job search tool, Optimal Resume.

The Provincial Open House takes place on Thursday, February 21, 2013 from 3:00-7:00pm at campuses in Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Surrey, Abbotsford and Kelowna. To RSVP, call 1-877.607.7819.
