WHY WE LOVE NATIONAL WATERMELON DAY 🍉

Endless variety

There are more than 1,200 varieties of watermelon in the world that range from pink to orange, large to small, round to even square! If you ever find yourself in Japan, be sure to track down its famous "cubic" watermelons.

Watermelon is both a fruit and a vegetable

Watermelons cross all produce boundaries.

Guilt-free food

Watermelons are 92% water, so you can not only dig in without feeling guilty and stay hydrated on a hot summer day.

Try These Pink Melon Lollies 🍭

Method

  • -Put the melon, sugar, lime juice and ginger in a blender (or use a stick blender) and whizz until smooth. Skim off any fluffy stuff, then divide between ice lolly moulds and freeze overnight.

  • --When you’re ready to serve, remove the lollies from their moulds and dip into popping candy, if you like, or see tip, before tucking in.

  • --TIP:  Buy apple-green popping candy online or rub some green food colouring into a little more granulated sugar.

Get Ready for a ComeBack! 🏙

All we have accomplished so far keeping ourselves, and each other, safe is paying off now and we deserve some good things. The things we can find in our local restaurants, hotels, attractions and businesses that have also been waiting patiently. Now, the wait is over.

Visit Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) for the most accurate and up-to-date information. They continue to reassess the public health risk, based on the best available information as the situation evolves.

Stay Safe This Summer 🌞

Physical distancing from others is important. Staying away from others is the only way to keep people from getting the disease. No community is immune. COVID-19 can be spread by people who have minimal symptoms. Someone who seems healthy could spread it to parents, grandparents or other people in our community. Some of these people could get seriously ill from this virus. Stay home except for essential errands. Tips  https://www.healthlinkbc.ca/health-feature/summer
